Lose Weight on The Keto Diet & Be Healthy
Pre-keto, I thought I was super healthy and thought I was eating a good balanced diet. Friends and family told me I was super healthy too, they admired my eating regime, and people called me for advise.
Aside from meat and fish, eating all those dates, bananas, nuts, grains, gluten-free bread, potatoes, gluten-free oats, oat milk, and gluten-free cakes and biscuits weren't actually doing me any favours.

Once the keto light dawned, I had to make some drastic changes to my diet; today, it's totally different. Don't Believe the menopause weight Gain
For a couple of years pre-keto, I just couldn't shed any weight and I had no idea why. At 53, I was beginning to think the menopausal middle age spread was getting a grip on my hips.
Now I know it was the carbs not menopause! I couldn't believe how quickly the weight dropped off and with the added miracle of feeling a thousand times better.

How To Transition Into Keto & Lose Weight
Transitioning can be difficult, some people start the keto diet head on and do well, others prefer to transition slowly. If you're the slow transitioner, then start by first cutting out bread, then anything that has cane sugar in it, then anything with flour except nut and coconut flour, then cut out everything else ie fruits and some vegetables...see the list below.
If you want to lose weight on the keto diet do not deviate or procrastinate...get started and stick to it!
During this transitioning it's a good idea to research recipes and start trying different foods that will satisfy you and foods that you wouldn't normally eat. Give yourself a timeline when to start and when to be fully transitioned.

To lose weight here are a few foods to start eliminating from your diet if you want to lose weight quickly:
- Cane sugar (brown, white and molasses)
- Sweeteners except erythritol
- Wheat (bread, cakes, biscuits, pasta)
- All flour including all gluten-free versions except coconut and almond
- Dried fruit
- Fresh fruit
- White potatoes
- Sweet potatoes
- Oat milk
- Rice milk
- No fast foods
- Sweetened chocolate

Does it make sense that the more fat and more protein you eat the less fat you'll have hanging over your belt? Everyone thought fat was food intended for people who want to get fat, but really it's proving the opposite. You've only got to read all the phenomenal testimonials on the internet to see how effective the keto diet is.
Anyone eating high fat, high protein and eating carb-free will lose their belly fat. It might come as a shock to you that unpasteurized butter, cheese, nuts, organic farm eggs, cream, and meat are diet foods and will make you healthy, fit and slim again.
If you're someone who easily puts on weight, then stop eating sugar and everything that converts to sugar. Sugar is poison to everyone, but especially to those who gain weight easily. Start eating keto foods.
Fat People VS Thin People
We are led to believe because a person is fat they eat too much. For a large part this is untrue, the truth is fat people are just eating the wrong foods. Thin people can also eat the wrong foods, but they metabolise it differently. Eating a high carb diet is still unhealthy and it's fatality often doesn't show as quickly with thin people.
Take my own dad for instance, he was perfectly well until he reached 50 years old. He ate the typical recommended 80s 90s carb diet with no problems, he was slender, loved dancing and won many medals, and never even had a cold all his life. Why should he have even considered changing his diet? Yet, my dad sadly died at age 52 from aggressive cancer. One day he was OK, the next he wasn't.
Fat people handle food differently than thin people
It's not about calorie intake, we all know it can't be just calories because some people just don't get fat at all not matter how much they eat. Some people are fat but are constantly hungry, and some
people aren't fat but are full of energy, and are super slim and trim.
Why Do Some People Store carbs As Fat?
It's a myth that carbs produce energy. When I was young I was an athlete for my county, I was told if I wanted to run faster I should eat carbs before the run. How misinformed I was. Carbs actually store in our bodies as fat reserves and protein stores in our body as fuel reserves.
You can not burn fat or gain energy from eating carbs. Even if a thin person eats a high carb diet they may still suffer from tiredness. This is the key to why a high protein low carb diet gives you more energy and makes you lose weight.
The person who stores carbs as fat has got a problem and that problem is called insulin resistance. You don't necessarily need to be a diabetic to be insulin resistant.
Dr's guidelines suggest you are at risk of diabetes when your belly reaches 36" or more. Yes, it is common place to hear of people with diabetes that are fat, but not so common with thin people.
Those of us with insulin resistance, make too much insulin when we eat or drink foods high in carbs ie sugar or foods that turn into sugar when we eat.
If you're fat around the middle you probably have insulin resistance
You don't have to be hugely fat to be insulin resistant, it begins when your belt starts getting a little tighter around the middle. I am thin, but pre-keto could gain weight if I didn't watch what I ate, so for me, my insulin resistance was fairly low. I have a friend who is stick thin and is diagnosed with diabetes, so that makes him insulin resistant.
The fatter and bigger your belly is, the more insulin resistant you probably are. The fatter your belly is the more insulin you make when you eat carbohydrates.
Insulin is normal and healthy and life giving, but for people who tend to get fat, even a little bit fat, they've got an insulin resistance problem.
If your diet consists of carbs ie sugary foods and foods that convert to sugar, then your muscles, your organs, even your fat cells will start sucking up more sugar. This is why I believe all my muscle pain and migraines disappeared when I stopped eating carbs.
Conclusion To Losing Weight And Keeping It Off
One thing I've come to love while eating the keto diet is that meal preps are much easier and quicker. I used to spend hours in the kitchen preparing delicious meals. No more of that!
One thing you should spend a little time in planning and preparing is your veggie intake. Being satisfied eating keto means eating a balanced diet, this means you must eat as many greens as possible with your meals.
Salads are big in our family with various green leafs, chopped celery, sprouted broccoli, cubed cheese for those who can tolerate dairy, chopped cucumber and oddles of extra virgin olive oil and a splash of braggs seasoning.
Veggies eaten with meat or fish can be broccoli, cauliflower, sprouts, cabbage...in fact anything green, but go super easy on the peas.
While eating keto, or with any diet as matter of fact, your body will crave extra nutrients. Vitamins and especially minerals has diminished in our food supply, this is another reason why some people are sick.
